Non-contrast enhanced, EKG-triggered, navigator MR angiography of the thoracic aorta and proximal pulmonary arteries: initial evaluation of using an abdominal compression band to reduce acquisition times

چکیده
Background Non-contrast enhanced, EKG-triggered, navigator 3DSSFP magnetic resonance angiography (NCE-MRA) is a robust technique but suffers from long scan acquisition times. Depending on heart and respiratory rates, acquisition times can still be prohibitively long. We describe the use of an abdominal compression band to reduce respiratory motion and image acquisition time with no sacrifice of image quality.

Compression belt for navigator-triggered trueFISP whole-heart coronary magnetic resonance angiography: study in healthy volunteers.
PURPOSE To evaluate in healthy volunteers the usefulness of an abdominal compression belt in reducing acquisition time by stabilizing respiratory motion during whole-heart coronary magnetic resonance angiography (WHCMRA) using conventional navigator triggering. METHODS In 10 healthy volunteers, we performed free-breathing 3-dimensional segmented true fast imaging with steady-state precession ...
متن کاملA Comparison of Cardiac-synchronized and Unsynchronized Gadolinium-enhanced Three-dimensional Magnetic Resonance Angiography of the Thoracic Aorta
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare multi-slab cardiac-synchronized breath-hold Gd-enhanced threedimensional MR angiography (1) with unsynchronized breath-hold three-dimensional MR angiography(Z-4) in patients for the evaluation of thoracic aortic disease. We hypothesized that the use of cardiac-synchronization should minimally provide the same diagnostic information and additiona...
متن کاملNon-contrast-enhanced MR angiography of the renal arteries with inversion-prepared b-SSFP: A comparison of different imaging protocols
INTRODUCTION: Inversion-prepared b-SSFP imaging is a common technique for non-contrast-enhanced (non-CE) MR angiography (MRA) of the renal arteries [15]. With this method, a slab-selective inversion of the volume of interest is followed by a delay TI and subsequent data acquisition. While inverted stationary tissues recover during TI and appear with low signal, non-inverted blood enters the lab...
متن کاملOptimization of single shot 3D breath-hold non-enhanced MR angiography of the renal arteries
BACKGROUND Cardiac and navigator-gated, inversion-prepared non-enhanced magnetic resonance angiography techniques can accurately depict the renal arteries without the need for contrast administration. However, the scan time and effectiveness of navigator-gated techniques depend on the subject respiratory pattern, which at times results in excessively prolonged scan times or suboptimal image qua...
متن کاملImproved visualization of aortopulmonary collateral arteries by abdominal aortic compression during angiography.
Increased filling of aortopulmonary collateral arteries occurs when the descending aorta is obstructed distal to their origin. We used this fact to develop a simple, safe technique for improving angiographic visualization of these arteries. The abdominal aorta is manually compressed against the spine during injection of contrast medium. A slight reflex bradycardia resulted, which probably also ...
